You may renew your license up to 180 days before it expires. The reminder will be sent to you by mail about 60 days before the expiration date. Note that there is a $10 late fee for renewals after the expiration date. You can renew your license in person at any DMV office without an appointment.Plan of action

- Proof of residency (if you moved)
By Mail
You may renew your license by mail only if you must be out of the state because you are in the military, an employee of the Department of Defense, or a dependent of someone who is. To renew your license by mail, you must provide the following information and items to the DMV:- Your full name.
- Your date of birth.
- Your Social Security number.
- Your driver license number if known.
- Your current Delaware address to be placed on your new license. (If you no longer have a residence in Delaware, you may supply the address of a family member.)
- Your mailing address.
- A contact phone number or email address.
- A copy of the military assignment orders for where you are currently stationed or a copy of your Military ID card or Department of Defense/Geneva Conventions ID card.
- Your signature.
- A check or money order, payable to DMV for $40.00.
- A self-addressed, stamped envelope (for faster service).
Online
You are eligible to renew online if:- You are over 18 years of age
- You haven’t lost your driving privileges
- You didn’t use the self-service kiosk at your last DMV visit
