Replace or Renew Your Driver License in Hawaii

You may renew a regular Class 3 license (not a Limited Purpose license) by mail if it is currently not expired. You can renew by mail up to two times in a row. The next time, you must renew in person. (Also, before you try to renew by mail in Kauai, contact the Kauai Driver’s License Division at (808) 241-4256 to make sure that you are eligible to renew by mail in Kauai.)Plan of Action
Step 1
Write a letter requesting renewal by mail. Include the following information about yourself:
- Your identity, including your legal name
- Your date of birth
- Your Hawaii driver’s license number
- Your phone number or email address (in case the Hawaii licensing office needs to contact you)
- Your mailing address
- Your signature

Fill out and submit the renewal packet. Follow the instructions and complete all the forms in the packet.

- Eight-Year License (Ages 25–71): 4 dollars (Hawaii, Honolulu, Maui), $32 (Kauai)
